Beyond horizontal eye movements: The importance of vertical and torsional eye movements in the diagnosis of vestibular and neurological conditions

Looking to strengthen your knowledge on vertical and torsional eye movements in the diagnosis of vestibular and neurological conditions? You’re in luck! On October 29, 2020 at 9am CST, Interacoustics is conducting a free webinar on this topic hosted by Dr. João Lemos.

About Dr. João Lemos

Dr. João Lemos is a Neurologist and Neuro-Ophthalmologist who has worked in the field of oculomotor testing for 15 years, both as a clinician and researcher. Based out of Coimbra University Hospital Centre in Coimbra, Portugal, he is the Director of the Neurology of Vision and Balance Unit, which sees around 1500 neuro-ophthalmological and neuro-otological patients annually.

By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to...

  • Understand the limitations of only looking at horizontal eye movements
  • Know which conditions benefit from vertical eye movement recordings
  • Comprehend the future role of measuring torsional eye movements in VNG

Beyond bedside testing: The importance of objectifying the ocular counter roll test

Led by Dr. Kamran Barin, this webinar will focus on the importance of objectifying the ocular counter roll test. It will be held on November 19, 2020 at 9am CST.

About Dr. Kamran Barin

Dr. Barin established Ohio State University's Balance Disorders Clinic and was its director until he retired in June 2011. He is a Doctor of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. He has published over 80 articles and book chapters. He has also taught national and international courses and seminars in different areas of vestibular assessment and rehabilitation

By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to...

  • Recap the physiological pathway of the ocular-counter roll test
  • Understand the benefits of torsion in measuring ocular counter roll
  • Comprehend the interpretation of the ocular counter roll test results

Beyond 2D eye recordings: The importance of measuring torsion and dynamic head movements in the diagnosis and treatment of BPPV

To finish off the year strong, Dr. Michelle Petrak & Darren Whelan will host a webinar on the importance of measuring torsion and dynamic head movements in the diagnosis and treatment of BPPV. This webinar will take place on December 17, 2020 at 9am CST.

About Dr. Michelle Petrak

Dr. Michelle Petrak is the Director of Clinical Audiology for Interacoustics and is a licensed, practicing audiologist in the Chicago area. Dr. Petrak received her Doctorates in Electrophysiology and Biomolecular Electronics from Wayne State University in 1994 and her Masters in Audiology in 1989. Her special areas of expertise include vestibular and balance testing (VNG), electrophysiological techniques (ABR/ASSR/VEMP/ECoG) and pediatric audiology.

Dr. Petrak is involved with product development, clinical evaluation testing, publishing, teaching and training on VNG and EP topics. In addition to being employed with Interacoustics, she is also a licensed and practicing audiologist at Northwest Speech and Hearing in Arlington Heights, IL. She continues to lecture extensively, nationally and internationally, and to publish articles in hearing industry journals.

About Darren Whelan

Darren Whelan holds an undergraduate degree in Audiology and a master’s degree in Health Science, Neurophysiology and Clinical Research. His has worked in several senior clinical positions in the NHS. Previously, Darren held a clinical and research scientist role. In this position,  he investigated patients with auditory and vestibular pathology, and managed a portfolio of research studies.

By the end of this webinar, you’ll be able to...

  • Understand the benefits of using an accelerometer to detect head position during BPPV assessment
  • Comprehend the advantages of using a torsion algorithm to identify the affected canal in BPPV
  • Know the usefulness of pairing 3D eye recordings with the TRV chair
