Reliable Hearing Screening Solutions from GSI

02/11/20

GSI offers premier solutions for your newborn hearing screening program. The Novus and Corti are efficient and reliable solutions that any hearing healthcare provider can operate with ease.

The GSI Novus is ideal for newborn hearing screening programs. This powerful device can be configured with any combination of AABR, DPOAE, or TEOAE. The Novus incorporates a color touch screen display with intuitive user controls and walks the screener through each step of the screening process. The HearSIM software that comes with Novus allows the user to customize their device settings and is used to store, view, and manage patient information and test data.

The Novus AABR screening protocol utilizes the CE-Chirp stimulus which has been shown to produce responses 1.5 to 2 times larger than the traditional Click stimulus. The AABR algorithm with the CE-Chirp results in faster test results. In ideal conditions, users report a Pass result has been obtained in as little as 16 seconds.

The most cost-effective option is screening using the OAE probe for AABR. The fastest results can be obtained when using ear tips or ear cups because both ears can be tested simultaneously.

The Novus can be licensed for DPOAE, TEOAE, or both. A Pass or Refer result will appear as soon as the result is obtained.

DPOAE Pass Criteria

Test Frequencies = 5000, 4000, 3000, 2000 Hz

L1/L2 = 65/55 dB SPL; F2/F1 ratio = 1.22

Pass Criteria:

            3 of 4 frequency for a Pass

            SNR = 6 dB

            Minimum Amplitude = -5 dB

TEOAE Pass Criteria

Click stimulus at 83 dB SPL

Frequency Bands = 1400, 2000, 2800, 4000 Hz

Pass Criteria:

            3 of 4 frequency bands to Pass

            SNR = 4 dB

            Minimum Amplitude = -5 dB

GSI Corti

The GSI Corti continues to be one of the most popular diagnostic and screening OAE devices on the market. With three screening and three diagnostic versions available, the Corti can be suited to meet the needs of an audiologist performing diagnostics, a hospital conducting newborn hearing screening, as well as the needs of general and specialty practitioners. The Corti is a handheld, battery-operated device that is designed for ease of use with a simple and intuitive four button design.

The Corti probe plugs into the device through an HDMI port helps maintain a strong and reliable connection and the easily changeable probe tip ensures that debris does not interfere with testing. The Corti utilizes a patented Noise Artifact Rejection Algorithm, allowing fast and accurate testing in challenging and variable acoustic environments.

The Corti is being used worldwide as a part of universal newborn hearing screening programs. The screening protocols for DPOAE include four frequencies 2, 3, 4, 5 kHz and averaging per frequency can be set at 2 to 4 seconds with test times of 8 and 16 seconds respectively.

TEOAE includes two protocols that center on 6 frequency bands of 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 4 kHz. Options for the maximum averaging time are 32 and 64 seconds. The TEOAE protocols will stop once a Pass result is obtained. In ideal conditions, test results can be obtained in under 10 seconds.

DPOAE Pass Criteria

Test Frequencies = 5000, 4000, 3000, 2000 Hz

L1/L2 = 65/55 dB SPL; F2/F1 ratio = 1.22

Pass Criteria:

3 of 4 frequency for a Pass

SNR = 6 dB

TEOAE Pass Criteria

Click stimulus analyzed at 80 dB SPL

6 frequency bands = 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 2500, 4000 Hz

Pass Criteria:

            3 of 4 frequency bands to Pass

            SNR = 4 dB

NOTE: Minimum amplitude requirement may be enabled for all screen protocols.

Diagnostic Details of the GSI Corti

The DPOAE diagnostic version of the Corti includes screening protocols as well as a 6 and two 12 frequency protocols. The diagnostic protocols may be customized re: L1/L2 levels, averaging time, SNR, and minimum DP amplitude. On screen Boystown normative data is available to assist in test interpretation.

The diagnostic TEOAE Corti includes two configurable 6 frequency protocols from 0.7 to 4 kHz in addition to the screening protocol. Options to adjust averaging time, SNR, and minimum amplitude are available, including the capability to select up to six frequencies to create a passing criterion.

The diagnostic versions of the Corti meets the criteria established to bill for commonly used CPT codes 92587 and 92588.

92587: Distortion product evoked otoacoustic emissions, limited evaluation (to confirm the presence or absence of hearing disorder, 3 - 6 frequencies) or transient evoked otoacoustic emissions, with interpretation and report.

92588: Distortion product evoked otoacoustic emissions, comprehensive diagnostic evaluation (quantitative analysis of outer hair cell function by cochlear mapping, minimum of 12 frequencies), with interpretation and report.

With the Corti, OAE analysis is made easy, with the precision and reliability you have come to expect with GSI. Choose from screening, diagnostic, or a combo unit, depending on your needs, and upgrade and unlock functionality as your practice grows.

The Corti and Novus reflect the commitment of GSI to build efficient and reliable products for newborn hearing screening programs. For more information, contact your local e3 office and check out www.grason-stadler.com
